The German Army on the Eastern Front was lower in priority than the forces deployed on the Western Front and this was particularly noticeable in terms of equipment. By March 1915, some German Reserve and Landwehr units on the Eastern Front would even begin to receive captured Mosin-Nagant rifles as replacements for lost weapons, as well as obsolete Gew 88 rifles.
