The free-enterprise system of economics, based on capitalistic principles, gluttonous consumerism, high technology, and faster and better systems of communication and transportation, has shrunk the world and erased most barriers protecting any culture, not just the indigenous ones.

Finally, Nichols affirmed the need for continued support of national leadership activities, especially in the areas of (a) human and financial resources, (b) advocacy and outreach to relevant higher education institutions and organizations, (c) institutional data collection and policy-related research, (d) technical assistance and professional development, and (e) organizational development and strategic positioning.
