She also describes the bookwomen’s prioritization of texts by women of color. Because even in their earliest days feminist bookstores functioned as distributors of both in-and out-of-print texts, they became a unique site of literary activism, maintaining a feminist history and dialogue not visible in records like catalogs or Books In Print or the inventories of mainstream bookstores.
Three women who had visited Labyris in the Village imagined starting a different kind of bookstore.
