Writing in response to Welsh's October 19 letter to the New York Times, Collier denied that there had been a revival of ancient communal practices among the Pueblos, and dismissed Welsh's charge that Christian Indians were Reformers in Conflict 33 being persecuted. He claimed to have read the unpublished affidavits circulated by the IRA, and asserted that even if they were indeed based on fact, they did not call into question the "moral content of Indian creeds and moral quality of their ceremonies.
