This has meant extensive emphasis on basic skills curricula and high-stakes testing. While educational reform rhetoric focuses on preparing students with the twenty-first century skills needed for college and work in the global knowledge economy, the reality is that the vast majority of jobs in the coming decades are projected to be low-wage service jobs that will not require advanced knowledge and/or college degrees.
