International schools may come into conflict with demanding parents. Some, as recommended by Ezra (2003: 141), provide counselling and other forms of parental support: indeed many have taken upon themselves more roles and responsibilities than would ever be considered reasonable to expect of a school in a national system, in terms of support for the wider family as well as for the child. Recognising that supporting the mother in such circumstances indirectly supports the child (and there is much anecdotal evidence to suggest that the extent to which the mother is settled and content in the new environment is the strongest single indicator of the extent to which the child will be settled and content), some actively encourage the involvement of mothers in the school.
