I invited its members to adopt an intercultural approach. It was on the basis of this program that the intercultural approach was developed and conceptualized, in the Council of Europe and by the researchers and practitioners cooperating with it. I offer here my own understanding of the term “intercultural,” as well as of other words related to it: multicultural (or polycultural), pluricultural, transcultural and crosscultural. For somebody speaking French or a Latin language, my use of these terms is easily understandable, because I give the prefixes their etymological (Latin or Greek) meaning.
