So far we have concentrated on aspects to do with feeling – especially around love, control and identification. Family climate also has a thinking and an acting dimension. The thinking dimension is the degree to which family members share the same world view and values.
Dhirubhai was popular, having built good political and bureaucratic connections to underpin the success of the business empire. An important factor in the success of the business was that its globally competitive production facilities were built on a larger scale than those of its competitors. The company was managed professionally, although it was family controlled, and Dhirubhai gave his loyal managers a free hand and encouraged them to take initiatives and risks while insisting on excellence.
