The trauma of the French Revolution led conservatives to seek the causes of this disaster, and in their search for the guilty some found the economic liberals were culpable. But we will contend that Right anti-economics was not restricted merely to the ‘reactionary’ champions of the Ancien Régime.

We argue that within a generation of 1789 this Right species of anti-economics was assimilated by new ‘visionary’ Right ideologies that were concerned to herald and construct a new order on the ruins of the old.
