She observed that learning happened through repetition, concentration, and imagination, and that learners needed to be independent in their actions whilst making their own decisions about what ‘work’ they should do and learning how to control their own actions.

He opened his own school with a colleague and settled at Keilhau in 1818. It was here that Froebel began to put many of his educational theories into practice in the school that took the form of an educational community. Whilst there, he wrote various articles, however his most important work was Menschenerziehung, The Education of Man. In 1859 the family moved to Vienna and in 1873 Freud graduated from secondary school able to read in several languages.
