Third, negative effects are a result of the general higher complexity of an UIS that is used for professional activities. UIS, especially when they are used to interact with multiple organizational contexts, are characterized by a high degree of heterogeneity on the technical side. Each involved organization, for example, provides a particular sub-system to support its variant of a sales process. If the degree of integration among these sub-systems and/or with corresponding systems of the organizational context is low, the results are media discontinuities, low data quality and lack of timeliness due to varying formats and the distribution of data across the UIS.
Fourth, negative effects are also caused by an overall incapability of individuals to compose and adjust an UIS according to the needs of professional activities. This can result from an individual’s personality such as the lack of openness towards innovations [31] that prevents it from adopting better sub-systems.
