It marks a move away from formal party and trade union politics that had been the focus of traditional Marxism and towards the recognition of the autonomous, non-representational subjectivity of the proletariat (see Wright 2002). The work of Negri and other (post-)operaists rejects the traditional focus of Marxist-Leninism on capitalist Antonio Negri – Europe against Empire 41 domination and replaces it with the centrality of anti-capitalist struggle.
