Also in many cases it is desirable to model the sequential construction/excavation process in detail. We have found that the optimal way of modelling such problems is by a combination of Finite Element and Boundary Element meshes. The paper will first discuss the efficient implementation of the Boundary Element Method on a CYBER 205 supercomputer and a VAXll minicomputer. Secondly, methods of coupl ing Boundary Element and Fini te Element meshes will be discussed. test examples.
